Feeling at Home exhibition at Science Gallery London

We are excited to announce that the Feeling at Home project will be holding its exhibition next month in the Living Room, on the ground floor of Science Gallery London between 4th April and the 6th May 2023.

The exhibition is part of the Feeling at Home research study, funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research’s School for Social Care Research.

We have used photovoice, a research method where people tell their stories, share their experiences, and work towards improving their lives through photography.

You can see the work of 19 photographers with learning disabilities from across Brighton and London. They met together in small groups to reflect on what helps them feel at home, and what gets in the way of this.

With Quiet Down There, they have curated this exhibition of their photographs and invite you to engage with these issues.

Join us at the Feeling at Home Celebration Event

We would also like to invite you to our Celebration Event on Wednesday 26th April 2023, between 1pm – 4.30pm at the exhibition space.

This is a chance to meet the photographers and learn more about the project.

The research team will present the findings of the project and share the Feeling at Home checklist and toolkit. These have been co-designed with staff and people living in group homes. They have been designed to help everyone work together to make people’s flats and houses places where they really feel at home.

You can book a free place at the Celebration Event on the Eventbrite page.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Disability arts online photovoice meeting

Would you like to

  • share ideas about using photography in participatory research and arts practice with people with learning disabilities?

Please come to our upcoming online meeting.

Date: 11 July 2022

Time:  11.00 to 12.30

We have been running photovoice groups with people with learning disabilities in London and Brighton and we will be holding a public exhibition of participants’ photos at the Phoenix Gallery in Brighton in September 2022.  The exhibition will showcase the work of the group members and invite engagement on the themes of the project from gallery visitors.

We would like to share our experiences as researchers, curators and as experts by experience with learning disabilities who have been co-facilitating the photovoice groups.  We also want to hear about the work that you are doing with artists and photographers with learning disabilities.

To find out more or to book, please contact Katy Brickley on katy.brickley@kcl.ac.uk.
